Pet Vaccinations

Regular vaccinations are a vital part of keeping your pet healthy and safe from potentially life threatening diseases. The importance of having your pet vaccinated and keeping them up to date on their vaccinations cannot be understated enough. These vaccines not only prevent infectious diseases like rabies, distemper, leptospirosis, feline leukemia, feline calicivirus, and many others, but they also keep your family safe because some of these diseases can be passed to humans.

For both cats and dogs there are core vaccines and noncore vaccines. Core vaccines are recommend for every pet regardless of lifestyle, however what is considered a core vaccine may vary depending on your geographical area and diseases that may be commonly found there. Non-core vaccines will be given depending on your pet’s lifestyle and unique needs. Your veterinarian will discuss your pet’s lifestyle with you and make suggestions about which non-core vaccines make the most sense.

For dogs, the core vaccines include rabies, distemper, canine parvovirus, and canine hepatitis. Non-core vaccines include Bordetella bronchiseptica, Borrelia burgdorferi, and Leptospira bacteria.

For cats, the core vaccines include panleukopenia (feline distemper), feline calicivirus, feline herpesvirus type I (rhinotracheitis), and rabies. Non-core vaccines include feline leukemia virus, Bordetella, Chlamydophila felis, and feline immunodeficiency virus.

We will discuss your pet’s needs and lifestyle with you and go over what diseases they are most at risk for in your area in order to create a vaccination plan that fits your pet’s needs. We want to make sure they are healthy and protected so they can live their best life!
